Kelly Lombardo studies the significant variability of weather conditions where land meets ocean, which increases the complexity of coastal storms’ intensity and development. This makes forecasting both more challenging and more important, given the large populations in coastal regions. She uses a combination of numerical modeling and observations to quantify the impact of the coastal environment on storms such as warm season squall lines in the mid-latitudes and tropics, and cool season nor’easters.
