Today marks the one-year anniversary of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Maryland’s second longest bridge was built in five years, opening in 1977. It took only seconds to come crashing down in the early hours of the morning of March 26, 2024, after being struck by a cargo ship, the Dali.

Alejandro Hernández Fuentes, Dorlian Castillo Cabrera, Miguel Luna, Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, José Mynor López, and Carlos Hernández lost their lives that frigid night.

Today, Midday a look at the past, present and future of the bridge and its surrounding communities.

Our guests include:

  • Mac McComas, Program Manager of the 21st Century Cities Initiative at Johns Hopkins University
  • Dan Alpher, Reporter for the Total Traffic and Weather Network
