SOE Professor Karl Alexander was recently awarded a grant from the 21st Century Cities Initiative to launch the Thurgood Marshall Alliance (TMA). The goal of TMA is to help build and sustain a network of Baltimore schools with diverse enrollments in terms of family income, race, and ethnicity. The Alliance will assist with family outreach to achieve enrollment targets and best practices in educational programming for children of all backgrounds. The project scope of work includes research to understand the landscape of school reforms presently underway in Baltimore and to identify partners for the Alliance’s work. The 21st Century Cities Initiative award letter said that TMA, “was an innovative venture of social entrepreneurship and urban partnerships very much aligned with its core values and goals.”
